When you want to leave something in this world, some sort of heritage, something to be remembered by, what do you call it? Even though Shakespeare said: “What’s in a name? That which we call a rose by any other name would smell as sweet.” The story is my memoir, but to me the name was of great importance too.

Over the last year I thought about a name for my book many times. I was always stuck around the words “From A Child’s Perspective”, but I didn’t want it to sound like a medical journal. It needed depth, something special, maybe even something only I would truly understand. It wasn’t until a couple of weeks ago that I finally made up my mind. Someone who is very dear to me helped me brainstorm, which wasn’t easy because 1) I am very stubborn, and 2) he never knew my mother nor did he knew the whole story. Some days that is exactly what we need to clear our minds though. The number “13” kept resurfacing during the process; quickly I knew that was something I wanted to use. 13 can stand for many things, and for my story it fit perfectly. With a little help it only took me one hour to settle on the title for my book:

13 DIAMONDS – Life Before Death From A Child’s Perspective

What the title really stands for? That’s for the book readers to find out. =)
